Your best days start with better nights
Every year World Sleep Day serves as a reminder of how essential quality sleep is to our well-being. In our fast paced lives, sleep is often sacrificed in favour of work, social activities and on screen time. The fact is poor sleep can lead to serious health issues, affecting both physical and mental well -being.
Why sleep Matters. Sleep is not just about rest, its a vital function that helps our bodies and minds recover, process information and maintain overall health, here's why:
Boosts Brain Function -Sleep enhances memory, concentration and problem solving skills.
Supports Physical Health - It plays a crucial role in immune function , heart health and metabolism.
Improves Emotional Well-being - Poor sleep can be linked to stress, anxiety and mood disorders.
Aids Recovery - Sleeps helps muscles repair and supports overall energy levels
Building a healthy sleep routine - Developing good sleep habits can make significant improvements to your sleep quality I periodically struggle with broken sleep and sleep quality I have found adopting a routine has helped, everyone is different so its about trying different things to find what works for you.
Optimise Your Sleep Environment - Keep your bedroom cool, dark and quiet.
Limit Your Screen Time Before Bed - Blue light from phones, tablets and Tv's can disrupt melatonin production, melatonin is a hormone that regulates sleep cycles and your bodies circadian rhythm. The disruption makes it harder for you to fall asleep, aim to power down an hour before bed.
Watch Your Diet and Caffeine Intake - Avoid heavy meals and caffeine close to bedtime as this can disrupt your sleep, I also find alcohol significantly decreases my quality of sleep.
Stay Active During The Day - Regular exercise can promote better sleep, but try to finish intense workouts a few hours before bedtime
I recently invested in the Oura ring to help better understand my sleep patterns, stress levels etc which I am finding very insightful. Todays stress levels spiked at 6.20am when we my daughters new bed delivery arrived... Happy World Sleep Day!
